"The Deliverance" is a horror film directed by Lee Daniels and written by David Coggeshall and Elijah Bynum. It stars Andra Day as Ebony, the mother of a Pennsylvania family, whose children become demonically possessed.

This feature film is based on the real-life story of Latoya Ammons and her family, which was widely reported in the US in 2014. They claim to have been victims of demonic possession over the course of two years and counting. Ammons and her family have received international media attention for their accounts, witnessed and documented by the Department of Child Services, the Indianapolis Police Department, and hospital staff.

"The office synopsis for "The Deliverance" reads: Ebony Jackson, a struggling single mother fighting her personal demons, moves her family into a new home for a fresh start. However, when strange occurrences inside the home raise the suspicions of Child Protective Services and threaten to tear the family apart, Ebony soon finds herself locked in a battle for her life and the souls of her children."

The movie was initially titled "Demon House" but was subsequently changed to "The Deliverance" due to potential confusion with another movie sharing the same title. In January 2022, Netflix acquired the rights for a reported $65 million.

After filming wrapped on September 3, 2022, Niija Kuykendall, Netflix's Vice President of Film, commented, "This will be very unique because it's very character driven and is really about the family dynamics of this family and how they come together to deal with possession and the horror aspects of the film. I think it's going to be really cool to see Lee's singular vision and taste in the way he approaches storytelling specifically in the framework of a horror, classic type, horror setting. I can't wait. It's looking beautiful, and I can't wait for people to see it."

In April 2022, it was announced that Mo'Nique would replace Octavia Spencer in the movie. Her casting reunited the actress with Lee Daniels, with whom she had a public feud for years following their collaboration on the 2009 movie "Precious". In June 2022, Netflix and Mo'Nique reportedly settled a lawsuit in which the actress alleged racial and sexual discrimination against the network.

In August 2022, Glenn Close, Rob Morgan, Caleb McLaughlin, Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, Omar Epps, Demi Singleton, Miss Lawrence, Tasha Smith, Anthony B. Jenkins, and James William O'Halloran rounded out the supporting cast.

"The Deliverance" will premiere in select theaters on August 16, 2024, and will be available for streaming on Netflix starting August 30.
