Get Millie Black premiered to critical acclaim with its gripping authenticity and harrowing exploration of the titular character and the LGBT community within Jamaica and Caribbean culture. Told with brutal honesty, the crime drama series highlights the origin story of Millie's abuse with her brother Orville, setting the dark tone of Millie's past. She was sent to London as punishment and grew up thinking Orville was dead when she joined the Police force in London. Returning to London, she is reunited with Orville, who is now Hibiscus, a transgender sex worker and the reunion reveals ugly truths about how marginalized the LGBT community feels and is treated. Driven by her desire to protect those who need protecting, the case she's working on in finding a missing girl leads her on a journey where she uncovers a massive criminal web in a sea of corruption that takes her through Jamaica's upper class and back to London.

This exceptional series does a masterful job of showcasing the dark underworld that the LGBT community faces with genuine trauma and pain with characters and extraordinary performances that elevate the narrative and shine a light on the oppression that exists today. Tamara Lawrence is flawless in a role played with gripping strength and determination fueled by her past to uncover the truth and right the injustices before her. The authentic narrative and willingness to spotlight the ugly truth of Jamaica's homophobia make the series stand out with high expectations for another season.
