James Gunn has put his stamp on the DC Universe as he attempts to reboot the franchise, formerly known as the DC Extended Universe, starting with his new adventure, Creature Commandos, the exciting new animated version of Suicide Squad based on the DC comics. The series premiered on December 5 on MAX with two of its seven episodes and will continue with weekly episodes every Thursday through January 9, 2025, with its season finale.

Creature Commandos follows a secret team of incarcerated monsters as a last resort for missions deemed too dangerous for humans by the ever-calculating Amanda Waller. The eclectic group led by Rick Flag Sr includes Doctor Phosphorous, the Bride, Weasel, GI Robot, and Nina Mazursky.

The series was written and executive produced by Gunn (best known for Guardians of the Galaxy and Suicide Squad) with Dean Lorey and Peter Safran. DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation produced it.

The series stars:

  • Indira Varma as the Bride:

  • Sean Gunn as G.I. Robot:

  • Sean Gunn as Weasel

  • Alan Tudyk as Doctor Phosphorus

  • Zoë Chao as Nina Mazursky

  • David Harbour as Eric Frankenstein

  • Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr.

  • Steve Agee as Economos

  • Viola Davis as Amanda Waller

Hailed for its animation, action sequences, and storytelling by critics, Gunn delivers a uniquely satisfying vision for all characters in his ambitious undertaking. These obscure characters get their moment to shine in the spotlight, giving rich character development that they would not have otherwise gotten to more mainstream characters in the DC universe. Many fun cameos will appear in the series that will surely be an audience pleaser with teasing post-credits.
