The highly anticipated second season of Netflix's dystopian drama Squid Game is merely a few weeks away premiering on December 26 and fans are ready to scream "Red light, Green light" in anticipation. Season 1, which premiered in 2021, was a mega-hit and became a global sensation as the first season remains the most-watched series for the streaming giant.
Ahead of season 2, Netflix has seen a resurgence of viewers flocking to reacquaint themselves with the series as Variety has reported Squid Game has now amassed 330 million viewers and more than 2.8 billion hours viewed since season 1's 2021 release. The new season promises even more suspense, drama, and thrills. Even though it comes with seven episodes (two less than the first season), Netflix promises that fans will not be disappointed. Each episode has a longer running time, clocking in at around 60 minutes, with episode 5 a whopping 76 minutes.

Returning for season 2 is Seong Gi-Hun (Lee Jung-Jae), Player 456, who returns with a vengeance to destroy those responsible for The Squid Game. Fans will remember that in season 1, Gi-Hun entered the competition after being riddled with debt and soon realized that the competition was faced with deadly consequences.
In season 2, we will be introduced to a new set of desperate contestants risking their lives at the killer chance of becoming the winner and claiming the winning jackpot of 45.6 billion dollars. Returning characters include Detective Hwang Jun-ho, played by Wi Ha-joon, and Front Man, portrayed by Lee Byung-hun. The 12 new contestants featured in season 2 include Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Gyu-young, Park Sung-hoon, Jo Yu-ri, Yang Dong-geun, Kang Ae-sim, Lee David, Lee Jin-uk, Choi Seung-hyun, Roh Jae-won, and Won Ji-an.
Creator Hwang Dong-hyuk said the reason the first season resonated globally with viewers was the fact that the game raised social questions and he plans to go deeper with an emotional exploration that delves into our humanity. With a third season scheduled for 2025, fans won't have to wait too long for the final installment of the global hit.
