"Lioness," the highly acclaimed espionage thriller from Paramount+, is back for season 2, and this season promises more drama as the stakes are even higher. Zoe Saldaña (Avatar franchise) stars as Joe, a CIA operative in charge of the Lioness program. The first season premiered on July 23, 2023, with eight episodes on Paramount+. The second season will premiere on Paramount+ on October 27, with 2 of its eight episodes. New episodes will be released weekly through its season finale on December 8.

"Special Ops: Lioness," simply called "Lioness", inspired by an actual US Military program, follows the life of Joe, the station chief of the Lioness program tasked with training, managing, and leading her female undercover operatives. She attempts to balance her personal and professional life as the tip of the CIA's spear in the war on terror. The Lioness Program, overseen by Kaitlyn Meade and Donald Westfield, enlists an aggressive Marine Raider named Cruz to operate undercover alongside Joe among the power brokers of State terrorism in the CIA's efforts to thwart the next 9/11.

The first season set a record as Paramount's most-watched worldwide series in its premiere week, with nearly 6 million total viewers across Paramount+ globally and on linear viewership on the Paramount Network.

In the premiere episode, Joe was first seen ordering a drone strike in Syria to save an asset after her cover was blown. Joe is that Joe. Not to be confused with G.I. Joe, but just as deadly, competent, and fearless. In season 1, she was torn between being present for her husband and her two daughters as the demands of the Lioness program kept pulling her away from her family however when her daughter got into a horrible car accident, it forced her to prioritize her commitment to her family, and she was determined to put them first. In an excellent emotional scene by Saldana worthy of Emmy consideration, she emotionally collapsed in her husband's arms, confiding how difficult the latest assignment was. She promised Neil she would take a desk job after completing the mission. Will she do it?

In season two, as the CIA's fight against terror moves closer to home, Joe, Kaitlyn, and Byron enlist a new Lioness operative to infiltrate a previously unknown threat. With pressure mounting from all sides, Joe is forced to confront the profound personal sacrifices she has made as the leader of the Lioness program.

Significantly delayed by the writer's strike, "Lioness" season 2 finally gets a premiere date, and viewers can continue to follow the ensemble cast, and the incredible writing with fantastic performances, notably by Morgan Freeman, Nicole Kidman, and Zoe Saldaña. The supporting cast is just as excellent as Cruz announced she's leaving the program at the end of season 1, horrified by what the program has made her into. Errol, Kaitlyn's husband and his financial investment operations will surely be a factor in season 2. The high-octane, action-packed sequences and realistic portrayals of military combat led by women make this series and season must-see.
