In season 1, after serving a 25-year sentence for refusing to snitch, Dwight is "exiled" to Tulsa, Oklahoma, by his boss, Pete, the head of the Invernizzi family, while promoting his son Don Charles "Chickie" Invernizzia and Vince Antonacci to number 2 and 3 respectively within the crime family. In Tulsa, Dwight has formed his own criminal empire with a rag-tag group that includes Tyson Mitchell, a taxi driver he converted to his personal driver, Lawrence "Bodhi" Geigerman, the owner of a local marijuana dispensary who finances the operation, Mitch Keller, who owns the bar he frequently visits, and Armand "Manny" Truisi, former Invernizzi soldier. Because of his stint in prison, he becomes estranged from his daughter Tina and her kids; however, when he learns that Nico, one of the Invernizzi soldiers, sexually assaulted Tina while he was in prison, Dwight returns to New York to exact his revenge. Back in Tulsa, he and his group got entangled with The Black Macadams, the local bike gang with the FBI hot on his trail. Chickie kills his father and becomes the new head of the Invernizzia family and wants Dwight dead. Dwight develops a romantic relationship with Stacy Beale, an ATF agent tasked with his case. In the season finale, she arrests Dwight on bribery charges and he returns to prison.

"Tulsa King" promises a more explosive season as Dwight and his crew are set to open their new casino and weed shop as they focus on growing their criminal empire. The stakes have never been higher as he faces off against new enemies as Neal McDonough and Frank Grillo join the cast, promising a gripping season filled with action and suspense. Dwight and his crew continue to build up and defend their growing empire in Tulsa, but just as they get their bearings, they realize that they're not the only ones who want to stake their claim. With looming threats from the Kansas City mob and a very powerful local businessman, Dwight struggles to keep his family and crew safe while keeping track of all his affairs. Plus, he still has unfinished business back in New York.
